Seasoned Firewood

100% seasoned firewood. No pine or poplar. 90% oak 10% mixed hardwoods (ash, hickory, and cherry). $75 a rick or $225 a cord. Delivery and stacking available, but extra.

What is Seasoned Firewood?

All firewood contains water. Freshly cut wood can be up to 45% water, while well seasoned firewood generally has a 20 to 25% moisture content. Well seasoned firewood is easier to start, produces more heat, and burns cleaner. The important thing to remember is that the water must be gone before the wood will burn. If your wood is cut 6 months to a year in advance and properly stored, the sun and wind will do the job for free. If you try to burn green wood, the heat produced by combustion must dry the wood before it will burn, using up a large percentage of the available energy in the process. This results in less heat delivered to your home, and literally gallons of acidic water in the form of creosote deposited in your chimney.

What is a Cord? What is a Rick?

Firewood quantities are sometimes difficult to estimate. The official measurement of firewood is a “cord”.  To help you make an accurate estimate, here is how some common units of firewood measurement compare to the full cord.

full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by eight feet long (4' x 4' x 8') and has a volume of 128 cubic feet.

face cord or rick of wood is four feet high by eight feet long (4x4x8)  and is as wide as the individual firewood piece.

  • A 12-inch wide face cord is equal to a 1/4 of a full cord.
  • A 16-inch wide face cord is equal to a 1/3 of a full cord.
  • A 24-inch wide face cord is equal to a 1/2 of a full cord.

How much in a Truck load?

Two full-size pick-up truck loads (8 foot box) equals one full cord, whether the wood is stacked carefully so it is about level with the truck box sides, or is thrown into the truck box and mounded up in the middle. One full-size truck (8 foot box) equals one and half ricks.

Three compact pick-up truck loads (6 foot box) equals one full cord of wood, whether the wood is stacked carefully so it is about level with the truck box sides, or is thrown into the truck box with mounded up in the middle.  One compact pick-up truck loads (6 foot box) equals one rick of wood.
